Information on how Ringling Students can participate in the 2024 elections.

Vote by Mail

Vote-By-Mail (Absentee Voting)

In Sarasota: 

  • Vote-by-mail refers to mailing in a ballot that was requested by the voter.

  • A request for a vote-by-mail ballot may be made in one of the following ways:

    • Online application: Florida residents, find your registration here 
    • By signed writing (e.g., mail, fax, or scanned attachment to an email) to your Supervisor of Elections
    • In person at your Supervisor of Elections' office
    • By phone call to your Supervisor of Elections
  • To make a request, you will need the voter's name, address, date of birth, Florida driver’s license number or the last four digits of their social security number, and signature (for a written request).

  • The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot must be made no later than 12th day before the election (in Sarasota and Manatee counties). The completed ballot must be received by the Supervisor of Elections no later than 7 PM on Election Day if the ballot is to count. Exceptions exist for overseas military and civilian voters. 

    • These dates and times will vary by state. Use Student Vote to find out your local information. 

  • Before you return your voted vote-by-mail ballot, be certain to seal it in the return envelope provided and sign the voter's certificate on the back of the envelope.

  • Any voter in Sarasota who has requested a vote-by-mail ballot can track online the status of his or her ballot through a link within the Division of Elections' Voter Information Lookup or through their county Supervisor of Elections' website. 

    The United States Postal Service also provides a free service called Informed Delivery that allows you to digitally preview the address side of certain mail pieces such as a requested vote-by-mail ballot that will arrive soon at your address.

Early Voting (in-person)

Early Voting In-Person

  • The early voting period must start at least 10 days before the election and end three days before the election. The early voting start date for the general election has not yet been announced. 

  • Early Voting sites will be determined no later than 30 days before the election. The sites have not yet been announced.

  • Voters who want to vote early will need to provide the following: 
    • a valid photo identification and a signature identification: 

NOTE: In Florida, students may bring their Student I.D. (if the name on it matches the name they've registered with) and something signed, like a credit or debit card (must have the signature on the back as they will match that when the student goes to vote).

  • See "Types of Identification" to find out which forms of ID are valid.

  • Voters can vote at any early voting site within the county.

Voting In Person on Election Day

  • The polls are open on Election Day, from 7 AM until 7 PM. Any voters waiting in line at 7 PM will have the opportunity to cast a ballot. 
  • On Election Day, voters must vote at their designated polling place. Find your polling place using the Voter Information Lookup site.
  • Voters who want to vote on Election Day will need to bring the following:

    • a valid photo identification and a signature identification.
    • See "Types of Identification" to find out which forms of ID are valid.
